More than 22,000 foreign millionaires, most of them in Hong Kong, are waiting to migrate to Canada, which can earn up to nine billion dollars by just letting them under the Investor class program.
This is according to a local newspaper, which quotes a note by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) – the federal department in charge of immigration issues. The note was obtained by a Canadian immigration lawyer.
According to Richard Kurland, there were 22,491 millionaire investors who want to come to Canada, along with almost 78,000 family members. And more than 16,000 of them are in Hong Kong alone.
They could theoretically apply under the Investor category, proving they can invest in Canada at least 800,000 dollars.
And if all of them are allowed to immigrate to Canada, they could bring in more than nine billion dollars.
The problem though is that the Canadian immigration system is set to handle only about 2,000 cases a year, and it will take about twelve years to complete processing the Hong Kong cases.
