The Canadian federal government is promising more money to help immigrant professionals get Canadian accreditation.

In its budget presented to the parliament on Tuesday, Mar. 22, the government says it will “test ways to help foreign-trained workers cover the costs associated with the foreign credentials recognition process”.

The budget has been sparing in regards to details of the funding, and the government would only say more details will be announced in the coming “weeks and months to come”.

However, one could assume that the funding might take the form of credit for foreign-trained professionals to take bridging courses, or funding of such courses.

According to government data, there are more than two million foreign-trained professionals in Canada, and 85 percent of them are immigrants. There have been no dearth in reports outlining the challenges and hurdles faced by such professionals, most of whom have advanced degrees and have worked for many years in senior positions thus carrying with them enormous amount of experience.

And the federal, provincial and local level governments have been putting in place systems to help them get jobs appropriate for their qualifications and experience.
